Line of Duty is BBC iPlayer's most watched series for 2021

137.1 million viewers streamed the box set across 2021.

Line of Duty has been named as BBC iPlayer’s biggest series of 2021.

The entire box set of the acclaimed police thriller has been streamed a huge 137.1 million times so far this year, the broadcaster has revealed.

Quite a way behind was the coverage of this year’s Olympics in Tokyo, which saw Team GB win an impressive 22 gold medals, with a total of 90.2 million streams.

US teen mystery drama Pretty Little Liars came in third having been streamed a total of 79.9 million times throughout 2021.

Euro 2020, Silent Witness, Waterloo Road, Doctor Who, Death in Paradise, The Serpent and Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK make up the rest of platform’s top ten most watched series.

The premiere of Line of Duty sixth season was also BBC iPlayer’s most-watched individual episode for 2021 with 9.2 million streams.

In second and third were the first episodes of the hit dramas Vigil and Time, having been streamed 8 million and 7.3 million times this year respectively.

EastEnders again claimed the title of the platform’s most-watched soap having been streamed 257 million times in 2021, a 100 million more times than last year despite it having been on extended hiatus due to COVID-19.
