The 2026/27 Women’s Super League season is poised to be an exciting new dawn for the competition, with the league expanding to 14 teams meaning more gameweeks than ever before.

Things get underway this weekend so be sure you know how to watch the 2026/27 Women’s Super League season live this year.

How to watch the 2026/27 Women’s Super League on TV

The 2026/27 Women’s Super League season will once again see broadcast rights shared between Sky Sports and BBC Sport, with the occasional game also being shown live on YouTube.

Women’s Super League on Sky Sports

Sky Sports is the main broadcaster for the WSL, with 90% of all matches shown on the broadcaster - that’s a total of 163 matches plus the WSL/WSL2 promotion/relegation playoff game.

As well as live fixtures, Sky Sports has enhanced the coverage with better behind-the-scenes access and more ways to watch, including Multiview, a programme that moves from ground to ground covering all the goals and big moments, complimented by dedicated commentary and half-time analysis.

Existing Sky Sports subscribers can watch via one of the numerous channels, including Main Event and Football, as well as on the move with the Sky Sports app, where you’ll find a plethora of Sky Sports+ streams.

If you’re not already with Sky, you can get signed up by choosing a pre-made Sky Sports package deal. If you are but don’t have Sky Sports part of your existing Sky TV package, you can add it on. You can choose between a 31-day rolling contract or an 18-month contract.

Women’s Super League on BBC Sports

BBC continues their coverage of women’s football by hosting 25 live matches this WSL season plus the League Cup final.

The matches will be available to watch on network TV as well as on BBC iPlayer, giving viewers the opportunity to watch whether they’re at home or on the go.

Unfortunately, though, they have discontinued their flagship BBC One highlights programme, The Women’s Football Show. They remain committed to women’s football, however, with their attentions instead turning to digital platforms to showcase highlights instead. This includes their newly launched women’s football YouTube channel.

Women’s Super League on YouTube

Sky Sports is continuing on from their groundbreaking coverage last season that saw them host several games live on their WSL YouTube channel.

Keep up with the action on YouTube via either the Sky Sports WSL channel or the dedicated Barclays Women’s Super League channel (not to be confused with the WSL channel, which is for the World Surf League).

2026/27 Women’s Super League: What’s new for the season

As already pointed out, the biggest change for this season sees the number of clubs competing growing from 12 to 14.

Birmingham City and Crystal Palace were promoted as winners and runners-up in the 2025/26 WSL 2 season, while Charlton Athletic, who finished third in the WSL 2, beat Leicester, who finished bottom of the WSL last year, in the promotion/relegation playoff fixture.

Speaking off relegation and promotion, that has now been expanded to two potential teams going down at the end of the season.

The side who finished 14th will be relegated automatically, while the 13th-place finisher will play in the WSL2 promotion/relegation playoff.

In terms of player and managerial movement, the biggest signing came from the London City Lionesses as they captured only one of the world’s greatest players, two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas from Barcelona.

As for change of managers, Manchester United’s Marc Skinner left in early August to be replaced by Eva Olid, who previously led Hearts of Midlothian to their first-ever Scottish Women’s Premier League title last season.

Brighton also lost manager Dario Vidosic, replacing him with Arturo Ruiz.

League Cup

The League Cup has also been given a revamp, being renamed the Players Cup and will now operate in a league system.

Teams who qualified for the Women’s Champions League are to be excluded, which means defending League Cup champions Chelsea, WSL champions Manchester City, and Arsenal will not be involved.

The remaining 23 teams from the WSL and WSL2 are split into Northern and Southern sections, although it will still be all one table. Each team will play six matches in total, three at home and three away, against sides in their region.

Games will be played from September to December on nights when Champions League fixtures are taking place.

Any games that finish as a draw will require a penalty shootout to decide a winner. In these games, two points are awarded to the winner and one to the loser, instead of the standard three for a win and none for a loss in a standard 90-minute result.

The top eight in the table will qualify for the knockout rounds, which will start with the quarter-finals in January. It will be one-legged games in the quarter and semi-finals.

2026/27 Women’s Super League: Matchday 3 results

Defending champions Man City remain perfect on the year although needed two late goals to see of Liverpool in the pairs six-goal thriller.

That wasn't the highest scoring game from the weekend though, as London rivals Crystal Palace and Tottenham's clash saw seven - all from the visiting Lilywhites.

Despite beating Birmingham this weekend, Chelsea fall to third in the table behind Spurs thanks to the latter's flurry of goals pushing them above on goal difference.

Another all-London affair saw London City beat newcomers Charlton 4-1, leaving Athletic still searching for their first point of the year.

Everton left it incredibly late to grab all three points against West Ham, scoring the only goal of the game in the 94th minute.

The final two games, Arsenal vs Manchester United and Brighton vs Aston Villa, both finished level with a goal apiece for each fixture.
