BT, EE and Plusnet price hikes: What you need to know
Will your bills be affected?

Major broadband and mobile providers BT, EE, and Plusnet have revealed updates to their annual price increase policies - meaning many customers will see higher bills in the coming months.
Last year, BT and EE introduced a fixed yearly hike of £3 per month for broadband, and £1.50 for SIM-only mobile plans. Now, those figures are set to rise again.
Wondering exactly how these changes will affect you? Check out the table below for a clear breakdown:
Service | New Annual Increase | Old Annual Increase |
Broadband | £4/month | £3/month |
SIM-Only Mobile | £2.50/month | £1.50/month |
Handset Bundles | £4/month | £4/month |
It’s also worth noting that customers with a TV package bundled in with their broadband will see an additional increase of £2 per month every year.
Who is affected by the price hikes?
The new price increases from BT, EE, and Plusnet will apply only to new and re-contracting customers who sign up for a broadband or SIM-only deal from 31 July (BT and EE) or 1 August (Plusnet).
If you’re currently mid-contract, you’ll continue under your existing pricing terms until your agreement ends.
Plus, good news for those on BT or EE’s social tariffs - your monthly payments won’t be affected by these changes.
What can you do to avoid price rises?
As mentioned earlier, these new price increases will only apply to new or re-contracting BT, EE and Plusnet customers. That means the simplest way to avoid them is to switch providers once your current contract ends.
That said, mid-contract price hikes are becoming increasingly common across the industry. The only way to steer clear of them entirely is to choose a provider that guarantees no mid-contract increases - though these are often smaller networks with limited availability in some areas.
As always, take time to compare your options and check the small print before switching.
