Weekly news roundup 08/09: Sport and TV coming soon

Today, we’re all about what’s due to come.

WWE/Endeavor takeover happening soon

Endeavor, the company that owns the UFC, is set to complete their takeover of the WWE very soon.

The takeover will see the WWE and the UFC merge under a new company named TKO Group Holdings, with this set to officially happen on Tuesday 12th September.

The takeover was first announced shortly after Wrestlemania 39 in April and now the deal is set to be completed.

Many changes are expected to come from the takeover. Unfortunately, job losses and other cost-cutting expenses are expected, as is the return of Vince McMahon, who previously resigned in disgrace last year amidst multiple sexual misconduct allegations.

Paul Levesque, better known as Triple H in the wrestling world, has also been removed from the WWE board after being in the Chief Content Officer role for some time and ushering in a brilliant and brighter era for the company.

Netflix’s One Piece has season 2 scripts ready

Surprise Netflix hit One Piece has its season two script already written, according to Tomorrow Studio CEO Marty Adelstein.

Fans have praised the streaming services’ latest live-action anime series, and its reception has led to Adelstein proclaiming that we can expect to see the next season in as little as a year to 18 months.

This isn’t guaranteed, though, as it will be up to Netflix to sign off on the continuation of the series.

But given the reception it has gotten and the fact that it beat the record held by Stranger Things and Wednesday for being number one in the most countries upon release (84, beating the previous record of 83), it is likely to return for a second season.

New NFL season is upon us

Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes and a member of the Detroit Lions team.

After a long six months without it, NFL Football is finally back - and it returned with a big bang.

The defending Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs took on the Detroit Lions in the first game of the season last night, and what was meant to be a mauling by the Chiefs ended up a very surprising victory for Detroit.

With that opener out the way, we can look ahead to Sunday and Monday for the remaining fixtures in week one of the new NFL season.

You can catch every game of the year in the UK only on Sky Sports. Check out the Sky Sports deals now and get sorted for the season!

The Boys spinoff confirms comic character

The highly anticipated The Boys spinoff series, Gen V, is getting closer, and with it comes more details revealed about the show.

One big reveal has been the announcement that the character Tek Knight from the comic books will be coming in the show.

Tek Knight will be played by Derek Wilson (Preacher) and is a Batman sort of superhero - not that he will be a bat or anything, he just has no power and instead relies on expensive technology.

Gen V will be within the same universe as The Boys and is expected to play a role in season four of the Amazon Prime Video original.
