Mel Gibson joins John Wick prequel series

The Continental will explore how the titular hotel for assassins came to be.

The John Wick prequel TV series has cast Mel Gibson in a lead role.

Titled The Continental, it’s set 40 years before the events of the first film and will explore the origins of the titular hotel which serves as a neutral space for international assassins.

Gibson, in his first foray into television in several decades, is set to play an entirely new character named Cormac.

The action will be told through the eyes of a younger Winston Scott, played by Ian McShane in the film franchise, who “is dragged into the Hell-scape of a 1975 New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind,” according to the official plot synopsis.

“Winston charts a deadly course through New York’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the iconic hotel, which serves as the meeting point for the world’s most dangerous criminals.”

The Continental will consist of three episodes which will be shown over consecutive nights.

Executive producers Greg Coolidge and Kirk Ward will also co-write the series and serve as joint showrunners.

While nothing’s been officially confirmed, the show is expected to premiere sometime next year after the release of John Wick 4 in May 2022.
