First look at Prince Charles and Princess Diana in The Crown season 5
The show is expected to air sometime in 2022.
Netflix has revealed the first look at Dominic West as Prince Charles and Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana in the upcoming fifth season of The Crown.
The pair, known for their roles in US drama The Affair and Christopher Nolan’s trippy sci-fi film Tenet respectively, are set to take over from current actors Josh O’Connor and Emma Corin.
The Crown season 5 is set to cover the 1990s, an incredibly turbulent and tragic decade for the royal couple which began with the very public crumbling of their marriage and ended with the latter’s tragic death in 1997.
At the beginning of August, the streaming giant also released the first image of Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II in what appears to be a room at Buckingham Palace.
Staunton will replace Academy-Award winner Olivia Colman as the monarch while Lesley Manville will take over from Helena Bonham Carter as her sister Princess Margret and Jonathan Pryce will replace Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip.
Trainspotting’s Johnny Lee Miller has been cast as former Prime Minister John Major who replaced controversial Conservative leader Margret Thatcher in 1990.
Nothing’s been confirmed by Netflix, but the show may cover other important events of the 1990s like the fire at Windsor Castle, the start of the Gulf War, the Queen’s Ruby Jubilee and the IRA bombings in London.
You can stream all four seasons of The Crown on Netflix now.
