New details emerge about Amazon's Fallout TV series

The co-creator of Westworld Jonathan Nolan will direct the premiere.

Amazon’s adaptation of Bethesda’s hit video game series Fallout has found its showrunners and set Jonathan Nolan as the director for the pilot episode.

Nolan is best known for creating HBO’s hit robot sci-fi series Westworld, which is currently in production on its fourth season, along with his partner Lisa Joy.

The pair were already announced as being onboard Fallout as executive producers when it was first unveiled back in 2020.

Both Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner are to serve as showrunners. The former co-wrote the script for 2019’s Captain Marvel while the latter has credits on The Office, Portlandia and Silicon Valley

The critically-acclaimed Fallout video game series is set in an alternate timeline where nuclear war between the US and China has left the world a radioactive, post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Small pockets of civilization have begun to emerge across the US however with a quirky 1950s aesthetic and old-school technology.

It’s not currently known whether Amazon’s series will attempt to adapt one of the many storylines explored in these games or create an new one. A cast has also not yet been set.

There’s no release date for Fallout but it’s not expected to air until at least 2023.
