Sky sets cast for crime drama A Town Called Malice

The show is named after the hit song of the same name by The Jam.

Sky has announced the cast for its upcoming original series titled A Town Called Malice

Described as “an explosive family saga, thriller, and crime drama collision”, it’s set to follow a family of petty thieves called The Lords who decide to swap London for the Costa Del Sol in the early 1980s.

Save Me’s Jason Flemyng heads up the family as patriarch Albert Lord and he’s joined by Martha Plimpton as Mint Ma, Jack Rowan as son Gene Lord and The Haunting of Bly Manor's Tahirah Sharif as his fiancée Cindy.

The many extended family members also include Mission Impossible's Dougray Scott as Uncle Tony, Lex Shrapnel as Leonard Lord, Daniel Sharman as Kelly Lord, The Third Day's George Jacques as Anthony Lord and Eliza Butterworth as Carly Lord.

“The smartest, but overlooked youngest son Gene (Rowan) and his fearless fiancée Cindy (Sharif) flee to Spain to evade arrest after narrowly surviving a gangland battle,” reads the official plot synopsis.

“The lovers quickly find themselves embroiled in the local underworld, and trouble starts to follow these two like night after day.”

“When the other Lords join them on the Costa del Sol, the family realises this is a golden opportunity to re-invent themselves and re-capture their former glory – much to the annoyance of Gene and Cindy, who have a very different plan.”

A Town Called Malice was created by Nick Love, who also developed Sky’s buddy-cop drama Bulletproof, and will be directed by Jamie Donoughue.

Melissa Bubnic, John Jackson, Liz Lake and Matt Evans will join Love in the writers room.

“What an amazing cast. I am so lucky to finally be working with some of my favourite actors and childhood heroes,” said Love. “I couldn’t be more excited to see how they bring the Lord family to life.”

A Town Called Malice will premiere on Sky Max sometime in 2023.
