The Idol canned as HBO confirms cancellation after one season

Don’t know if anyone is really going to be unhappy or surprised at this one.

HBO show The Idol has been cancelled after just one season.

The show, headlined by Abel Tesfaye (better known as The Weeknd) and Lily-Rose Depp (daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis), was met with widespread criticism from fans and critics alike.

It was almost always doomed to not live up to expectations after the original director Amy Seimetz left the project.

Despite bringing in Euphoria director Sam Levinson, reshoots for The Idol came along, and that is almost never a good sign in Hollywood.

While the concept was there for a compelling story and interesting themes, the show fell short of everything that it could have delivered. As such, reviews were rather bleak and fans were not at all captured by what it was.

The short five-episode-long series currently has a 4.8 on IMDB and 25% on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you are at all interested in watching it, The Idol was featured on Sky Atlantic during its run. All five episodes are still there to watch on Sky On Demand.
