Southgate promotes Under-21s pair

Chelsea's Cole Palmer, Manchester City's Rico Lewis and Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa.

Gareth Southgate has promoted Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Manchester City’s Rico Lewis to the England senior squad from the Under-21s for the upcoming International fixtures.

The young stars have been given the promotion after James Maddison, Callum Wilson and Lewis Dunk all pulled out of the squad due to injury. Jude Bellingham is also a doubt to play.

Along with Lewis and Palmer, Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa has also earned his first England call-up.

While its happy days for these three, players such as James Ward-Prowse and Raheem Sterling must be scratching their head, wondering what more they have to do to add to their national team appearances. Sterling especially has found form again for Chelsea, but has been left out once again.

The Marvels tops box office despite worst-ever MCU opening

The latest MCU title, The Marvels, was released over the weekend and while it has claimed the top spot in the box office, it has also slumped to the worst opening for an MCU title.

The Marvels won the weekend with a $47m domestic opening, breaking the previous low for an MCU title, which was 2008s The Incredible Hulk, by $8.4m.

Internationally, the film brought in $63.3m to bring the combined total to $110.3m. Part of the reason for the low numbers may be down to the movie’s stars, such as Brie Larson (Room) and Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction), not being able to do as much promotional work as Marvel would usually do for their films due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, which only ended shortly before the films release.

McIlroy wins Race to Dubai title… without playing

Rory McIlroy poses next to the Harry Vardon trophy which he won for winning the Race to Dubai title in 2022.

Rory McIlroy has won the DP World Tour Race to Dubai title for the fifth time - and he hasn’t even played since the Ryder Cup ended on 1st October.

The most recent event on the tour was the Nedbank Golf Challenge, played at The Gary Play Golf Course and Country Club in Sun City, South Africa, and was won by Max Homa.

Adrian Meronk and Ryan Fox were the only two players in the field that could catch Rory, but they both failed to even break the top 10, meaning they didn’t get enough points to keep the championship going until the DP World Tour Championship this coming weekend.
