Weekly news roundup & weekend watches 13/06

What’s gone on this week and what’s on this weekend?

Murray brothers to play doubles at Wimbledon

Andy Murray and his brother Jamie will compete together at Wimbledon for the first time in the men’s doubles competition.

Andy, a three-time Grand Slam champion including two Wimbledon titles, is looking set to retire after this season and is opting to compete in doubles competition more than singles, with him eyeing an appearance at the Olympics in France this summer.

His older brother Jamie is also a two-time Grand Slam doubles winner and five-time Grand Slam mixed doubles champion, although he has never won the doubles title at Wimbledon (but does have two mixed doubles Wimbledon championships).

The Boys to end with season 5

The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has announced that the series will end following its fifth season, much to the anguish of fans.

The popular Prime Video show premiered season four today, 13th June, with the first three episodes now and the next five episodes airing once a week every Thursday until 18th July.

In a post to X/Twitter, Kripke described how it was “always my plan” to end the show with the fifth season.

The Boys has been a rousing success for Prime Video, finding a new audience of superhero fans who were tired of the same Marvel tropes and pleased to see a different, much darker and gory side to the genre.

While many will be sad about the announcement, the good thing to look at is it was always the plan to end here, so the show is sure not to end on a sour note or with loose ends as Kripke has likely had his plan for the ending for some time already.

Terzic leaves position as Dortmund manager

Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Trzic has sensationally resigned from his role after asking to leave the club, stating that he wants the club to start a “new era” with a new club.

The German had been Dortmund manager since 2022, bringing them agonisingly close to the Bundesliga title in his first full season, losing out to Bayern Munich on goal difference.

Most recently, he led the club to the Champions League final, where they unfortunately lost 2-0 to the competitions powerhouse, Real Madrid.

What Terzic’s next move will be is unclear as of now, having been tied to the club for six years and being a lifelong fan.

Despite his comment about the club moving into a new direction, there has been no word on a successor as of yet, with reports in the German media suggesting his assistant and former Dortmund player Nuri Sahin could take over.
