New Sky Atlantic series

The Tattooist of Auschwitz season 1

2nd May 2024

Author Heather Morris’ best-selling novel has been turned into a limited TV series that will be coming to Sky Atlantic very soon, and it promises a gripping viewing experience akin to that of the book.

Taking place at Auschwitz in 1942 during World War II, it tells the story of Lali (played by Jonah Hauer-King), a Slovakian Jew, who was made one of the tattooists at the concentration camp, being given the job of inking identification numbers onto fellow prisoners’ arms.

He meets a prisoner named Gita (Anna Prochniak) and develops a connection with her. Their love defies the horrors around them, but it was near impossible to sustain in such a place.

The story is told from the perspective of Lali as he meets aspiring writer Morris (played by Melanie Lynskey) 60 years on from his time in the camp. He has now found the strength within to tell his story, recounting his past and reliving his memories of his love with Gita.

This harrowing true story will play out as a six-part limited event series, premiering on 2nd May on Sky Atlantic.

The Sympathizer season 1

May 2024

Another series based on a prize-winning novel, this time written by Viet Thanh Nguyen. Here’s how Sky themselves have described the show:

“The Sympathizer is an espionage thriller and cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his new life as a refugee in Los Angeles, where he learns that his spying days aren't over.”

The show is sure to bring a compelling story while keeping it lighthearted enough to make for easy and watchable viewing.

To add to it, the cast also features Golden Globe award-winner Sadra Oh and Academy Award winner and Hollywood legend Robert Downey Jr.

Sweetpea season 1

Coming in 2024

Sky Atlantic sure does love a book-adapted TV series as Sweetpea is show based upon a novel of the same name, written by C.J. Skuse.

The show stars Ella Purnell, who is most known now for the well-received Fallout series but is also recognised from her time as Jackie on fellow Sky Atlantic show Yellowjackets.

A deviously twisted coming-of-’rage’ story as Sky puts it, Sweetpea follows Rhiannon (Purnell), a quiet wallflower whose life transforms from average and unexciting to confident and thrilling, although not always in safe and harmless ways.

This is one that fans of the book will love, but even without prior knowledge of the story, the potential for this one to become a new favourite is rather high.

The Day of the Jackal season 1

Coming in 2024

The Day of the Jackal series is based upon the 1973 political thriller starring Edward Fox and Michael Lonsdale, which itself is based on - you guessed it - the 1971 political thriller novel of the same name written by author Frederick Forsyth.

The award-winning story is getting a fresh update with a contemporary twist that is sure to entice, engage and ultimately satisfy its viewers, keeping them on the edge of their seats throughout each episode. Here is the official synopsis released by Sky on the series:

“The new series is a bold, contemporary reimagining of the beloved and respected novel and film. While remaining true to the DNA of the original IP, this contemporary drama will delve deeper into the chameleon-like ‘anti-hero’ at the heart of the story, in a high-octane, cinematic, globetrotting 'cat and mouse' thriller, set amidst the turbulent geo-political landscape of our time.”

Ursula Corbero of Netflix’s Money Heist fame, Academy Award-winner Eddie Redmayne and Marvel bad Chukwudi Iwuji all star in this updated story that is sure to make for must-see TV.
