FA Cup semi-final draw review: Fixtures & what’s happened so far

Wembley beckons for the four sides left standing in this year's edition of the FA Cup. 

The competition thus far has seen some great escapes and immense surprises, living up to the well-known FA Cup magic.

FA Cup 2023/24 quarter-final results

The quarter-final stage produced some of the best games of the season, and we’re not just talking about in this competition.

Manchester City was the only side who had an easy time with their matchup, dispatching Newcastle 2-0 in commanding fashion thanks to a brace from Bernardo Silva (heavily deflected for both, mind you).

Coventry continued their fairytale run with a death-defying escape against Wolves. Coventry’s second-half strike was cancelled out by two late goals from the hosts, who seemingly had the tie won. But the Championship side fought till the dying moments and found two goals deep in added time to shock the Molineux.

Chelsea also left it late to secure their place in the semi-final. Their two first-half strikes cancelled out by Leicester, only for the Blues to get another two in added time to win 4-2.

But the jewel of the round and potentially the entire FA Cup this year was the big rivalry matchup between Manchester United and Liverpool.

It was an even contest and both teams fought hard for the victory. United struck first but Liverpool ended the half with two late goals. It took until the 87th minute for the Red Devils to score again, with Antony’s strike taking the game to extra time.

Liverpool scored first this time, but it was the home fans singing by the end as Marcus Rashford equalised and Amad held his nerve in the 121st minute to score the winning goal.

Results of the FA Cup semi-final draw

The FA Cup quarter-final draw took place on Sunday 17th March following the conclusion of Manchester United vs Liverpool. 

With only four teams remaining, the competition heads to Wembley to decide who will be going through to play for the coveted piece of silverware.

The two matchups for the FA Cup semi-final stage are:

• Manchester City vs Chelsea
• Coventry vs Manchester United

From the looks of things, we may be getting treated to a second consecutive Manchester Derby FA Cup final.

Man City have looked strong this campaign, especially in the last two rounds, so they will heavily fancy their chances against the billion-pound bottle jobs of Chelsea, although anything could happen.

As for Man United, they will know they can’t take Coventry lightly. The scrappy underdogs haven’t been this far into the competition since the 1986/87 campaign, where they not only made the final but beat Tottenham Hotspur to win their only major trophy to date.

Next FA Cup draw

Unsurprisingly there will be no next FA Cup draw as there will only be the two teams remaining to duel it out in the final.

If you want to get deep into it, the next round will be the first stage of the 2024/25 FA Cup campaign, which will be the extra preliminary round, although that isn’t televised and the draw isn’t shown, so the next official round draw will be the first round proper, likely in November.

FA Cup 2023/24: Round dates

The FA Cup semi-final will be played on Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st April, with a match on either day.

After the conclusion of that weekend, the final will await on 25th May, six days after the conclusion of the Premier League season.
