FA Cup 5th round draw review: Fixtures & what’s happened so far

All the details on the FA Cup 2023/24 competition, including 5th round draw info.

As the oldest national football competition in the world, the FA Cup is as prestigious as they come for all British sides.

The 2023/24 competition is in full flow now, with the fifth-round draw now providing the next round of matchups.

Find out how things have looked so far and the details of the fourth round, including the fifth-round draw result, when the round will be played, and when the next draw will be.

FA Cup 2023/24 so far

There has been some FA Cup magic in this year's competition as there is every year. Sixth-tier side Maidstone are on a fairytale run, having beat League One side Reading in the third round and Championship promotion contenders Ipswich in the fourth round.

Tottenham’s hopes of silverware this year now purely rest on an improbable Premier League title charge as they were beaten by reigning champions Manchester City in the fourth round.

There were five replays for the fourth round, and each one provided.

Most surprising of all, Chelsea downed Aston Villa at Villa Park 3-1, including a sensational freekick from Enzo Fernandez who clearly picked up the trick from being around Lionel Messi in the Argentina squad.

FA Cup 2023/24 fifth round draw: Fixtures

The FA Cup fifth-round draw took place on Sunday 28th January. While there are no massive matchups, there are some interesting fixtures that could provide more surprises.

Here is the fixture list for the fifth round:

  • Liverpool vs Southampton
  • Blackburn Rovers vs Newcastle United
  • Bournemouth vs Leicester City
  • Wolves vs Brighton
  • Chelsea vs Leeds
  • Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United
  • Coventry City vs Maidstone United
  • Luton Town vs Manchester City

Maidstone’s run has seen them slay two giants (compared to their standing) already. Their next matchup will see them against another Championship side in Coventry City, which should give the Stones a boost as they haven't been as successful this season as Ipswich, who they dumped out in the fourth round.

Both Manchester sides also have a great chance at getting through to the next round, although they may have to fight that bit harder to get a result away from home against their opponents.

As for Liverpool, they will know they can’t take it easy against Championship side Southampton. A former Premier League side in their own right, the Saints are currently flying in the Championship. They’ll be looking at this matchup as a great opportunity to test themselves against a side they may face once again in the top flight next season.
