Uncharted (2022)

Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg star together in this fast-paced, high-octane adaptation of the extremely popular Uncharted game franchise. 

Victor Sullivan (Wahlberg) recruits Nathan Drake (Holland) to find the legendary treasure of the Magellan Expedition, named after the real-life Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. A race ensues against corrupt billionaire Moncada (Antonio Banderas) and mercenary Jo Braddock (Tati Gabrielle) in an exhilarating journey that remains exciting throughout, while being faithful to the source material, Uncharted game fans will be pleased to know. 

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

The third instalment of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise is one to be remembered for Spider-Man fans for years to come and is best experienced with little to no information of the plotline, so we’ll keep this brief. 

Spider-Man: A Long Way From Home’s (2019) ending saw Peter Parker exposed to the world as the masked swinger, and No Way Home starts right where its predecessor left off. After having his entire life tipped upside down, Peter requests the help of Doctor Strange to make the world forget that he’s Spider-Man, but the spell he casts goes terribly awry leading to Spider-Man having to make amends… 

Jackass Forever (2022)

There’s not much to say on this one, other than the Jackass crew are back to doing what they do best and it’s just as good as ever. 

Despite looking a tad older, nothing’s changed. If you’re a fan of the Jackass movies of days gone by, why haven’t you watched this already? Simply outstanding entertainment. 

Belfast (2021)

Caitríona Balfe, Judi Dench, Jamie Dornan, Jude Hill, Ciarán Hinds and Colin Morgan all star in this comedy drama directed and written by Kenneth Brannagh. 

It follows a boy’s childhood in Belfast at the start of The Troubles in 1969, and through his eyes, the life of his working-class Ulster Protestant family. While not directly based on a true story, Brannagh used his own experience, and that of many Irish families during The Troubles, to create an element of authenticity that helps bring to light the issues faced by so many during the riots of 1969. 

Filmed mostly in black and white, Belfast is a touching, coming-of-age story that should be watched by many. 

King Richard (2021)

Referring to Richard Williams, the father of real-life tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, this biographical film tells the story of how the two rose to the top of women’s tennis, and the crucial role their father played. 

Despite bombing at the box office, it has since gone on to be steeped in praise, earning six nominations at the 94th Academy Award, winning one for Best Performance of an Actor in a Leading Role which was collected by Will Smith. We won’t mention what else he was famous for that night. 

Matrix: Resurrections (2021)

18 years after The Matrix Revolutions, The Matrix franchise welcomed its fourth addition, The Matrix Resurrections, and is the first of the Matrix films to have been directed by just Lana Wachowski, without her sister, Lilly. 

Video game creator Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) has created a game series called The Matrix, using inspiration from his faint memories as Neo, also basing one of the game characters on Trinity. Anderson struggles to differentiate reality from dream, and sooner or later he is prescribed blue pills to help him do so. Need we say anymore? You know the drill. 

Clean (2021)

Clean, played by Adrian Brody, is trying to live a simple life as a rubbish man but is constantly tormented by his past and the death of his daughter, until a local mob boss forces him into the violence he once knew so well. 

A dark, gritty crime thriller not too dissimilar from the likes of Nobody and the Equaliser, Clean is an enjoyable watch if you’re hungry for some good old-fashioned-revenge action. 

The Faculty (1998)

Certainly not a new film but a new addition to Sky Cinema’s roster nonetheless, The Faculty is a science fiction horror movie starring Elijah Wood, Usher and Josh Harnett, and is a great one to watch given the time of year.  

During an alien takeover in Harrington Highschool, Casey (Elijah Wood) and Delilah (Jordana Brewster) witness the murder of nurse Rosa Harper by some of their teachers, and decide to investigate further when they see her alive again. Casey, Delilah and their friends soon figure out the teachers, who look normal, can infect others to turn them, which begs the question, who can they trust?
