The first El Clasico of 2024 was a rousing success for Real Madrid as they comfortably dispatched their rivals Barcelona 4-1 to lift the Spanish Super Cup.

Vinicius Jr was the man of the hour, running riot and scoring a first-half hattrick including two in the first 10 minutes to essentially put the game to bed before Barca could get going.

The victory was Real’s revenge in the competition after Barcelona beat them in last years final 3-1. It is also the second El Clasico win for Los Blancos this season, with at least one more still to be played but there is the potential for more.

Jason Statham tops the Box Office with The Beekeper

Jason Statham’s latest action flick The Beekeeper debuted at the top of the box office this weekend. It dethroned Wonka for the top spot while Anyone But You jumped from fifth to third.

The Beekeeper grossed $16.7m over the standard weekend in the US, although the extended Martin Luther King weekend figures have it at $19.1m. Full international figures aren’t known yet except for $2.8m from Germany.

Wonka had another strong weekend, earning $8.3m in the standard weekend and $10.8 in the MLK weekend numbers, bringing the domestic total to $178.6m and helping surpass the half-a-billion worldwide total, with the film now sitting at $507.7m.

Third place in the standard box office goes to Anyone But You with $6.9m made but in the MLK weekend numbers, it was narrowly beaten by Migration, earning $8.2m to the latter's $8.3m.

Murray out in first round of Australian Open

Andy Murray suffered a tough loss in the first round of the Australian Open, losing to 30th seed Tomas Etcheverry in straight sets.

The 36-year-old's comeback following near-career-ending hip problems hasn’t harboured much success but this loss is sure to be the worst.

Murray was outplayed, losing 6-4 6-2 6-2 in just two hours and 23 minutes. It makes it his fourth first-round exit at this Grand Slam in his career - more than the other three combined.

One-half of last summer's Barbenheimer phenomenon, Oppenheimer, has finally been given a streaming release date of 16th February - in the US.

The film will arrive on the streaming service Peacock, which is currently exclusive to the US, meaning international territories will have to wait a bit longer for the near-billion-dollar epic.

For us in the UK, we will have to wait a further two months before being able to watch the film at home. Oppenheimer will be coming to Sky Cinema and NOW TV on 12th April.

O’Sullivan victorious once more at the Masters

Ronnie O’Sullivan continues to make snooker look easy as he extends his record of Masters titles to eight with a 10-7 win over Ali Carter at Alexandra Palace on Sunday.

The undisputed greatest of all time was made to work by Carter to win the £250k grand prize. He was 6-3 down at one point but fought back to take the win, becoming the oldest winner in the tournament’s history at 48 years old.

With this victory and his title win at last month's UK Championship, O’Sullivan now has the chance to win all three of Snooker’s Triple Crown events in the same season, something he has yet to achieve in his career.
